Presentation for the 2013 NSRA Annual Leadership Conference in Boston, MA.

There is no question that advances in technology have forever changed the way we consume. With so many choices and so many ways to access them anytime and anywhere, customers are in the driver's seat and competing for their share of wallet and and heart is not what it used to be. E-commerce and mobile commerce in particular have disrupted the brick-and-mortar format we have used for hundreds of years creating a competitive landscape that we could never imagine.   Divided into three parts, this presentation will start with an overview of the challenges of competing in the digital world of instant access to every product or service that the customer wants or needs. It will then continue with specific strategies to convince the customer to buy from you today by giving them what online sellers cannot such as, the lowest total cost, instant gratification, DIFM service (Do-It-For-Me) and peace of mind among other things. The third part of this presentation will then focus on how to do all this through your people. Because change can only happen in your store if you have the right people, ready, willing and able to help you thrive in this brave new world of retail.
